Here at Pitstops for Kids!, we’ve been talking about easing the difficulties of holiday travel and the travel technology we love best. This past week, my family and I traveled five hours from southern Oregon to northern Nevada and back, and were glad to have the Prism Portable Digital TV along for the ride. It was definitely a useful travel tool to have at our disposal.
As I disclose with any compensated item, I was given the Prism (one to review, one to donate) by Office Depot at no charge. This compensation came with no expectations or agreements for a positive review.

Nate watches The Smurfs to pass the time in the back seat of the van.
With the antenna in place, you can scan for TV channels on the Prism while driving, but since most of our route entailed particularly remote stretches of highway (Highway 89 in northern California and US-395 in northern Nevada) there weren’t too many stations to pick up! But for our purposes, the best use we found for the Prism was as an additional viewing screen: with the A/V cable, we were easily able to attach the Prism to our portable DVD player, allowing our feature attraction to be played on two screens. Since our oldest child sits in the third row of our minivan, this meant he no longer had to crane his neck to see and hear the movie!
The picture was crystal clear no matter where we were driving (mountains, valleys, cities), and we also loved the light weight and size of the Prism. There’s no assembly to speak of, and it easily fit into our travel tote between uses. And we did pick up TV stations while not in remote locations: on Thursday morning, the kids enjoyed watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade via Good Morning America while cruising through downtown Reno.
We figure the Prism could also be highly useful during camping trips, tailgating, or in case of emergency. I also wondered if it wouldn’t be nice to have in the car for when soccer practices or karate lessons go a little late and the younger kids are bored in the (parked) car. I’ll definitely leave it in the console for those moments!
How can you get your hands on your very own Prism TV? Stay tuned! (Here’s a hint: Pitstops for Kids! is donating it to a very worthy cause, and should you feel the inclination to give as well, one could be yours!)
