I recently had the pleasure of reviewing one of her guidebooks, An Explorer’s Guide to Northern California*. As a Northern California native, I was excited to thumb through the book, knowing I’d be very familiar with most of the points of interest. I found the guidebook so extensive that there were many, many entries for places I’d never heard of, even in locations I feel I know well!

I used the book to find a great hotel for our overnight in Sacramento at the end of our current road trip, and and then proceeded to plan our next day in the valley based on the ‘To Do’ section. I love how Michele highlights ‘Green Spaces’, and the way the regions of Northern California are divided into nine sections (more than any other guide I’ve seen). At the beginning of the book is a ‘cheat sheet’ of places not to be missed. It, too, is divided by unique category, so that you can easily see the best-of-the-best in terms of ‘family adventures’, ‘top beaches’, and even ‘romance’ (I know…what’s that, right?).
