Thank you to Cascadia Kids, September’s Sponsor of the Month, and congratulations to Shonda, winner of the Northwest Kid Trips guidebook!
Meet our Sponsor of the Month for October: PicPocket Books!
PicPocket Books (recently featured in Inc. Magazine) allows children to enjoy picture books as downloadable iPhone/iPod Touch apps. Children ages 2-8 can read or listen to their favorite stories on-the-go—and on-the-go is what we’re all about! PicPocket Books adds to their library of children’s book titles every day, and as a recent recipient of a ‘MomInspired’ grant from Kimberly-Clark Huggies brand, iPhone and iPod Touch users can look forward to even more selection as this mom-founded company grows further!
If you’ve been reading Pit Stops for Kids for long, you know that I am a fan of apps for kids: they’re a practical way to entertain, beat boredom, and learn about your destination while traveling. I’m also a huge fan of books, however, and wasn’t sure how I’d feel about digital versions of beloved children’s stories taking the place of the real deal. I shouldn’t have worried: PicPocket Books preserves the original artwork from all their classic books, and adds professional storytellers as narrators, which only enhances the experience. We didn’t feel like anything was missing!
We had the pleasure of sampling some of PicPocket Books’ apps this past summer while in the midst of our A Pit Stop a Day Road Trip, and my five-year-old especially loved not only the stories themselves, but the fact that he could ‘turn’ the pages himself, listen to the narrator or read along with the text, and could still see pictures on every page. Plus, at app prices, PicPocket Books is the economic way to build your ‘traveling’ bookcase for on-the-road reading!
Would you like to try out a story or two?
Lynette Mattke, founder of PicPocket Books is generously giving away two apps apiece to three lucky Pit Stops for Kids readers!
