Thank you to Moms on Vacation, August’s Sponsor of the Month, and congratulations to Jennifer Horn, winner of the $50 vacation credit!
Meet our Sponsor of the Month for September:
Cascadia Kids!
Cascadia Kids (www.cascadiakids.com) is one of my favorite resources for Northwest family travel. I’m a Northwest mom myself, but every time I visit Cascadia Kids, I learn about a new place or a new aspect of a place I love to take my kids. On the website, you’ll find comprehensive articles about how to tackle specific Northwest cities, lists of kid-friendly restaurants for foodies, reviews of tried and true children’s museums and amusement parks, and many, many tips and recommendations for the best places to lay your weary kids’ heads.
Lora Shinn, administrator of Cascadia Kids, is also the author of the travel book Northwest Kid Trips, which I recently had the opportunity to review. I cannot say enough good things about not only the content of this guidebook (which is substantial) but the way it’s structured. Organized by Northwest city, there’s a large section on Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, and Victoria. Within these sections, the book is further divided into categories: what to do, where to stay, what to eat. Many books are organized this way, but what makes Northwest Kid Trips different is the sections (for each city) on ready-made itineraries by family style. If your family is active, for instance, you can read a customized itinerary for Vancouver filled with hikes and ski trips. If your family leans more toward the artsy side, the area’s best museums and galleries are mapped out for you. And it doesn’t stop there: for each city, you can see a calendar of local events by month, fun facts, and history. I plan to use this book the next time we head to Portland, despite the fact that we visit regularly: just glancing at the Portland section, it’s clear I have a lot to learn!
