Pit Stops for Kids readers know I’m a fan of the Otterbox brand for handheld electronic travel protection, which is why I was excited to review their Defender Case for our iPad 2. Our iPad goes everywhere we do, and consequently, it gets dropped into sandy beach bags, stuck between car seats, loaded into backpacks, and carted onto airplanes. It’s even been known to take a few spills (both of the tumble and the drip variety).
Obviously, the poor, overworked thing needs major protection, which is where Otterbox comes in. I nearly clapped my hands with joy when I learned their iPad 2 case had come on the market, and you will too: with full-bodied plastic and silicone protection at every angle, you’ll finally feel as though your iPad 2 is safe in the hands of your kids. It features an inner polycarbonate shell with a foam interior to protect the back of your iPad from scratching, and a durable silicone skin that absorbs shock. Add a clear screen protector, and you’re good to go.
My favorite feature is the clip-on touch screen cover that serves a duel-propose: it protects your screen when the iPad is stored, and also functions as a fold-out stand that offers convenient viewing and typing angles. I never wanted to type on my iPad until I used this stand!
Our only complaint: it’s easy for crumbs, dust, and dirt to gather in the edges and corners between the screen and the case. If you have a remedy for that–other than to stop being complete slobs–please let me know!
